How to glue the ceiling plinth to the stretch ceiling?

Installation of plinth on stretch ceilings is made in order to hide the hole that forms between the wall and the canvas covering the ceiling surface. If this is not done, the room will have an unfinished, sloppy look.

The plinth, or a fillet, represents a level from polymeric material. It can be narrow or wide, with or without a pattern. The total of all skirting for stretch ceilings is only one - one must be fixed under the ceiling, closing the technological gap.

Features of the installation of the plinth to the stretch ceiling

There are special plinths with protrusions for mounting directly in the mounting profiles to which the tensioning fabric is attached. However, the choice of such models is quite limited, so most of the manufactured plinths attached to the glue.

Why it is impossible to glue the ceiling plinth to the stretch ceiling directly? There are at least five reasons for this:

  1. The stretch fabric is made of PVC film, rather thin, which can sag under the weight of the plinth;
  2. Solvents contained in adhesives can damage the film or even make holes in it;
  3. It is impossible to glue the plinth on the stretch ceiling, since the film is not fixed rigidly and can easily change its position - a reliable adhesive bond is not formed under such conditions;
  4. Drying, glue will create tension, which is unlikely to be uniform - the ceiling cloth will “lead”, it forms folds, wrinkles;
  5. If it is necessary to remove the plinth, the ceiling leaf will inevitably be damaged.

In order to glue the ceiling plinth to the stretch ceiling, that is, to the wall under it, and not to fear that it will quickly detach, it is better to get a plinth with the maximum possible width of the surface adjacent to the wall - this will ensure a good grip and the plinth will hold well. The length of the plinth as a whole depends on the shape and size of the room. Plinths with a length of 1.3 m are most common, although in large rooms two-meter models can be used.

Important: When buying a plinth, take all the required quantity at once, and make sure that the batch number is the same, otherwise the individual parts may differ in shade.

Calculation of the number of plinths

Check if you have enough skirting boards. The calculation is simple: to the total length of the perimeter of the room you need to add a margin for the corners (approximately 10 - 20 cm at each corner). The resulting result is divided by the length of the plinth (standard length - 200 mm) and find out the required amount.

Installation of plinth for stretch ceiling

Usually, any additional elements that serve as a decor are first fixed in place, and then painted, if necessary. However, there are some subtleties here: if the plinth is located close to the canvas, it can be stained during painting, so it is recommended to do the painting first, and only then begin the installation.

Before attaching the plinth to the stretch ceiling, you must purchase the tools for this job:

  • Stationery or construction knife;
  • Measuring tool (ruler, tape measure);
  • Spatula (better rubber or plastic);
  • Pencil;
  • Brush;
  • Stuslo (for smooth joints in the corners of the room).

In addition, the following materials will be required:

  • Plinth;
  • Glue for plinth (it is selected taking into account the material from which it is made);
  • Sealant (preferably acrylic);
  • Polyethylene lining (food wrap).

To attach a plinth to a stretch ceiling, you will also need a stepladder and a napkin to remove excess glue. Start with preparatory operations. First of all, protect the stretch ceiling from accidental scratches and stains. To do this, around the perimeter of the room attach to it a thin plastic wrap.

Tip: In order to qualitatively and beautifully connect the baseboards in the corners of the room, you can buy special figured "corners". In the event that there are no suitable “corners” on sale, they are made with the help of a special tool — a miter box — and the usual sharp knife.

Stuslo is a rather rare instrument, it is not necessary to acquire it “at once”. A self-made block can be made from three boards, having built from them something like a tray, the inside of which should be equal in width to the width of the plinth. Then arm yourself with a protractor and cut a hole at a 45-degree angle in the sides of the tray.

To glue the baseboard to the stretch ceiling, you need high-quality glue. It is better if it is transparent (or at least white). One of the main requirements for glue - it should not darken over time. Most often for similar works use glue the Moment: "Installation" and "Super resistant", and also "Titan".

How to glue the ceiling plinth to the stretch ceiling: the order of work

Preparatory work

  • Spread the ceiling plinth along the walls. In the long walls, put on two baseboards, in short - one by one. On the remaining places lay cut to the size of the baseboard. Try to ensure that the parts that you cut on your own go to the corners of the room, and in the center those that are cut off in production are joined - they will give a perfectly flat joint.

  • Cut off the corner pieces with the help of the sheet so that they fit together evenly.

  • Again, lay the baseboards on the floor and check how accurately they fit in place. If necessary, make corrections.

After completing the preparatory work, you can begin installation directly on the wall.

Important: You need to start work from the corner, located opposite the entrance to the room.

Installation

  • Before you glue the baseboard on the stretch ceiling, attach it to the walls without glue, check the joints.
  • Mark the wall with a pencil, marking the joints and the bottom edge of the ceiling plinth.
  • Use a polyethylene backing (food wrap) between the ceiling and the baseboard.
  • Grease the wide side of the ceiling plinth with glue and wait a couple of seconds - it is necessary for the glue to start to set.

  • Attach the baseboard to the wall, focusing on the pencil marking, and press for a minute. After that, use a napkin to remove any excess glue.

  • The next plinth is glued in the same way, it is applied to the already glued one. In addition to the wide part, it is necessary to coat the ends of the baseboards with glue.
  • Continue to stick baseboards around the perimeter until the work is finished. After the glue is a little “stuck”, you can remove the film from the ceiling, if you are not planning to paint the baseboards.

Important: To start painting the ceiling plinths can only be after the glue is completely dry. For drying time, see adhesive packaging.

After the glue is completely dry, it is necessary to fill the gaps between the wall and plinth with a sealant and a spatula.
