Hidden curtain rods

Eaves of various sizes, configurations, are used for hanging curtains over windows, in other places of the room. They are wall or ceiling. The hidden cornice is mounted to a stretch, suspended ceiling, the very top of the wall, being almost imperceptible detail. Unlike traditional hanging elements, this item is easy to fit into any of the existing interior styles.

Features of the use of hidden eaves in the interior

Ceiling cornice is designed to maintain, fix the curtains, while fitting well with the existing or only created interior. The hidden cornice allows you to completely cover the entire wall with the curtain. It seems as if the curtains "flow" right from the middle of the ceiling, where the wall meets the ceiling.

This design does not split the space vertically, which is especially useful when the room is low. For high, multi-level ceilings, the product is also suitable. It is not necessary to mount the construction only along a wall with a window - it will become an excellent separating element (in a studio apartment, a room with a bay window, a niche), if necessary, can be removed with a slight movement of the hand.

Advantages disadvantages

The main advantage of the hidden structure - it is completely hidden in the ceiling, while being invisible. An ordinary cornice must be carefully selected for various elements of the decor: the decor of the ceiling, furniture, the curtain itself, etc. Hidden, however, is deprived of such shortcomings - as a visible part of the interior it is simply missing, which “unloads” the room, makes it more spacious. Another advantage is the ability to install hidden lighting, simultaneously with the eaves. On the ceiling object of such a plan they hang all kinds of curtains - from very thin to heavy, dense. It is only important to carefully fix the product on the ceiling, choose the appropriate material of manufacture. Hidden object gives the room a very aesthetic appearance.

The element has only two drawbacks - the complexity of installation and the difficulty of replacement. When creating a stretch ceiling, it is necessary to decide in advance where to hang the cornice, to install bars and mortgages in this place, and only then tighten the fabric or film of the ceiling structure.

Varieties of hidden eaves

"Hidden" designs, there are several varieties that differ from each other by fastening, manufacturing material:

  • string - cheap, but not practical, as they can withstand only light tulle curtains;
  • multi-row - suitable for two or three types of curtains at the same time;
  • rod round - used in wide niches;
  • flexible - great for separating corners, bay windows.

The suspension is made in the form of a tire mounted on the ceiling in a specially made niche - for this, a frame is made. Suspended, suspended ceiling here a little does not reach the wall, although from a distance it is imperceptible. For tensioning structures, single-row, double-row, three-row cornices are used. They are mounted simultaneously with the tensioned ceiling, since this cannot be done later. For plasterboard options, straight and flexible products are used, which are given a different shape - crescent, waves, etc. The eaves are mounted on a suspended ceiling in a niche, but you can install it simultaneously or later.

Curtain materials

Hidden curtain rods are made from the following materials:

  • natural wood;
  • plastic;
  • aluminum;
  • steel.

Plastic is suitable for light, voile or cotton curtains in the kitchen, bedroom, nursery. Aluminum and wooden are able to withstand heavy loads, because they are mounted in the hall, the kitchen combined with the living room is decorated with curtains made of heavy fabrics, with many folds, lambrequins, and grabs. By color, hidden elements are usually white, less often gray, brown, black. Kohler does not matter, since the eaves are not at all visible.

Options, installation features

For installation of the suspended structure, a niche closed on three sides is required - it is carried out at the stage of assembling the ceiling from gypsum board. The curtain should be fixed as follows: at a distance of about 20-25 cm from the wall with a window, furniture corners are attached to the concrete ceiling slab, to them, with the help of self-tapping screws or anchors, a wooden beam. At the beam, the center is determined; a special wall baguette is fastened there that hides the beam. Further, the middle of the niche is determined, where the hidden eaves are nailed.

Another option is to mount on the ceiling not a beam, but a steel rolling angle. Further, ceiling guides are attached to the corner, a level is indicated relative to the walls, on which the canvas will be stretched. Gardinu allowed to install before installing the beam, if you choose a ceiling mount. Making the niche itself is not necessary, you can only set the backlight, if it is provided in the project.

Stretched ceiling mounting

The stretch ceiling also makes a niche, which is desirable to provide at the design stage. Recess dimensions:

  • width - suspended curtains should not touch the window sill, "lie" on the battery. If installation of the backlight is planned, this is also taken into account;
  • the length is the most acceptable - from wall to wall or by 25-30 cm more windows in each direction.

The timber from the tree is fastened a few centimeters from the erection of the eaves, then the curtain is hung, the baguette is nailed onto the wooden part, which later (after the curtain hanging is mounted) the ceiling canvas is stretched. The cornice is attached to the ceiling itself, made of concrete or wood.

In the ceiling niche, except for the suspension itself, it is easy to hide all the extra wires, some other communications.

Self-installation: tools, materials

The price of installation by the master consists of:

  • the complexity of the shape of the product;
  • type of ceiling;
  • cornice forms;
  • material of manufacture;
  • numbers of rows;
  • availability of additional functions (for example, installation of the drive).

As a result, the cost is relatively large, because to save the eaves set independently, this will require:

  • curtain itself;
  • narrow, sharp hacksaw (suitable special, designed for cutting knots);
  • metal tape measure;
  • long metal profile or ruler;
  • gon;
  • plummet;
  • office knife with a double-sided blade;
  • roughing plane, for processing drywall edges;
  • simple pencil for marking;
  • perforator;
  • rubber spatula;
  • paint and brush;
  • reinforcing corners;
  • putty, primer;
  • step ladder.

Installation of drywall box

Gypsum plasterboards have a small mass, so they are optimally suited for creating various ceiling structures, including niches for built-in cornice. Plasterboard sheets are cut into strips of 15-20 cm wide. There are several variants of cutting (straight, double-sided, uneven, round holes), but the usual one is preferable - straight.

The desired size is marked on both sides of the sheet, a ruler is applied (steel profile), the top layer is carefully cut through. Further, the material is placed with an edge, tapped on it where there is no cut, the gypsum core breaks, the second, cardboard side, cut with a knife or sawn.

For installation of the box purchase:

  • enough drywall;
  • steel ceiling profile, the dimensions of which are 2.7 by 6.0 by 300 cm;
  • curtain guides for the ceiling - wooden or aluminum, 2.8 by 2.7 by 300 cm;
  • electric drill;
  • screws, dowels or staples.

Works are performed in the following order:

  • distance from a window sill, a wall with a window, a protruding radiator is measured;
  • a ten cm allowance is added to the resulting number so that the curtains move freely in the niche;
  • next line is planned, it is held parallel to the wall, which will be the edge of the future niche;
  • in accordance with the line guides are mounted, the distance between the dowels in this case - 60-75 cm;
  • for assembling the sides of the box, the strips of drywall are screwed to the guides, the step between the fixing elements is 10-15 cm;
  • at the ends of the box mark the perimeter, secure the screws, placing the profiles in the direction of the walls of the room;
  • the gypsum strips are cut with a hacksaw; they are niche sidewalls, the ends are cut with a plane;
  • with the help of ceiling profiles, the sheathing is assembled, the interval is 40-50 cm;
  • then sew the bottom of the box, in accordance with the size of the niche, the sidewall is permissible to create from glass, transparent plastic.

Designers are invited to perform the edges of the box is not straight, and wavy, broken.

Plasterboard niche plating

By location in a niche plasterboard is:

  • on a separate, lowermost tier by the window, if the ceiling is multi-level;
  • in the form of a box along all the walls - this is how the effect of a two-level ceiling is created;
  • like a special box near the window.

While working on the plating, all screws, other fixings need to be “sunk” into the drywall - hats should not protrude. After the hole with fasteners, the joints of gypsum sheets are putty, and sometimes the whole box is covered with a primer. The internal corners are treated with a rubber spatula - to simplify the finishing, they are allowed to place the corners of aluminum, plastic. Corners must be pressed into the putty layer.

When the putty dries, all corners are thoroughly polished with fine sandpaper, the dust is removed, the niche is painted in a suitable color scheme. To diversify the interior, even before installing the eaves, neon tubes, halogen lamps, and LED strips are installed in the niche. With such details, the room will become more comfortable, and the curtains, especially monochromatic, will “float” in the air.
Tip: before starting the plating, the place where the eaves will be located must be marked out, put in mortgages, dowels under it.

Mount cornice

The main drawback of drywall is low strength, if the load falls on one point, therefore it is permissible to hang only light objects directly onto the drywall surface. Fastening here is done with Molly bolts, specially designed for hollow structures. If you plan to hang heavier products, under the drywall, a mortgage beam is mounted directly on the ceiling, which is later bolted to the cornice. This should be done before the drywall construction is assembled.

Because the cornice is usually mounted in a niche, on screws and dowels, hangers, brackets. The standard ceiling is made of concrete, space under the eaves is pre-marked, indicate the middle. When the tire is eared, holes are usually made in it, but if not, they must be drilled. For three-four-row tires, holes are made in two rows, the ceiling is also drilled, the middle of the eaves is fastened with a dowel-nail, and the edges are fixed in the same way. When mounted on wooden ceilings, self-tapping screws are used instead of dowel-nails.

Ceiling plinth, as an option to hide the eaves

Making the ceiling with a plinth or baguette is an original way to completely hide the place where the curtain hangs over the ceiling. There is also often placed the backlight - the light bulbs themselves, LED strips will be invisible, the observer will see only their light. The light itself hides in a niche, parallel to the curtain rail, decorating the space of the room.

Baguette itself is performed:

  • wooden - decorated with carvings, painted with wood stain, paint, found in art deco styles, classical;
  • metal - is a smooth shiny ribbon, well suited for the interiors of high-tech, industrial;
  • polystyrene foam - made white, painted, smooth or textured, ideal for minimalism, modern style;
  • from plaster - such a border is made extremely rarely, as it is difficult to perform, heavy in weight, suitable for baroque and antiquity.

Guides of a baguette design - plastic, steel, aluminum, sometimes - string. Usually such a curtain is mounted almost the same as other options. Possible fasteners on the mortgage bar - then the eaves, which in the normal state is clearly visible, hiding behind a decorative plinth, which is permissible to choose any.

Conclusion

The secret ceiling cornice is a convenient, practical element of a modern interior, suitable for any room. You can embed an "invisible" item anywhere in the room. This will help invited experts, but, if you have a certain dexterity, the installation is done independently - detailed master classes are easy to find on the Internet.
