Modern style in the interior in the photo examples

This style, starting from the last decades of the 19th century, quickly spread in all kinds of art. At first, the fine arts, the works of European architects began to move away from calibrated proportions, strict geometry. Just like other areas, the modernist style in the interior was the result of complete confusion and mixing of directions, protest by artists and decorators against the rigid framework of academic art.

The first steps of this trend can be seen among the works of painting and graphics. Designers, architects who worked at the crossroads of epochs did not assign work to one direction or another, they simply embodied avant-garde ideas, under whose influence style was formed. In different countries, he was named in his own way: art nouveau, ar nouveau, liberty, style of Glasgow, metro-style ... Formed largely due to Europe's fascination with Japanese prints. The east was inspired by the twisting lines characteristic of modernity, the desire for constructiveness. One of the reasons for the emergence of style was the technological breakthrough that swept many countries, the transition from handicraft to mass industrial work.

Traits characteristic of style

Artists are beginning to give preference to motifs, as well as to forms close to natural ones, refuse to have a clear geometry of lines and angles, and show interest in new technologies and materials. Due to this, decorative-applied art turns out to be on the crest of the wave, which later affected the interior design.

Modern strives to combine both utilitarian and artistic functions. Proponents of this trend believe that the brink of human activity should be reflected in the field of beauty.

You can highlight the basic principles of style:

  • Streamlined plastic forms, smooth lines. Symmetry is alien to him, it is close to nature, where nothing fits under the ruler.
  • Muted colors. Preference is given to light pastel tones or a dark brown, reddish scale.
  • Forms are simple, concise. Silhouettes are often close to spherical, rectangular or cylindrical.
  • Mixing elements of various styles, strict harmony.
  • The use of ornament. Decorators often decorate the interior with floral prints and floral patterns.
  • Lots of wood. Modern - one of the most complex, expensive styles. Original furniture with interior items will require considerable material and labor investments.
  • Stained glass. We can say the main element of any room, designed in this style.
  • Elements of wrought metal. They should not be many, they have curved shapes, are painted in a dark color, often sprayed over the gilding.
  • Glass, textiles, stucco elements, the use of mosaics.

Room layout and directions

The projects of this direction are at the same time decorative, practical, attention to detail. The interior is furnished with simple and at the same time functional furniture, there is an elegant glazing, fittings with exquisite details, textiles, figurines with plant themes are used.

In the interiors of the Art Nouveau style, a free (open) layout is used, the floor is played up at different levels, and the window openings are moved apart. The main principle of working on the creation of space is fantasy. The walls are covered with winding lines, decorated with plaster plastics. On the furniture, the decor elements are minimal, a stylized floral pattern prevails here, the color scheme is uncritical, the colors without many shades.

The advantage is given to materials from wood, natural stone, ceramics, glass. The main task in planning is to create a comfortable interior space.

French

All the most famous styles - classicism, baroque or art deco - came from France. In the French interiors are often used elements of modernity. Architecturally, they are weakly expressed. If present, it is usually a magnificent stucco and, to a greater extent, wood carving. For the French, luxury is embodied not in gold-plated faucets or pompous furniture, but in traditional antique details, a bold palette.

Antique items here are in perfect harmony with modern. Pastel colors dominate, where pearl, pinkish tones combined with gray shades are popular. Massive mirrors adjoin to graceful figurines, flowerpots, antiques are combined with noble modern ones.

Russian

He came to Russia with some delay, but did not exist for long. From the beginning of the last century, this direction was not fully integrated into Russian life, it included many borrowings. The use of Japanese motifs is very characteristic of Russian modernism. Pictures decorated stained glass windows, lampshades, wide wall panels. Plots in the design of walls, stained-glass windows could be flowers, exotic patterns, a vine, fantastic and real-life birds, butterflies, as well as female images.

The scope, breadth, organic style of the beginning of the last century now fit well into the design of country houses, since this area requires a lot of space. Russian modern today is marked by combining different types of materials and styles in one design. Door, window openings are complex oval shapes. Large windows can be decorated with stained glass windows, the walls are covered with smooth or textured plaster. The richness of the interior adds an abundance of stucco, forged parts, galleries, stairs and terraces. Mosaic tiled belts or ceramic elements, handmade "laces" from the tree look original.

Classical

The classic version of modernity involves creativity in a wide space. It does not accept excessive decoration, overloaded with furniture, it requires the integrity of all parts of the interior, both inside the house and with the adjacent territory. For classic modern typical model proportions, alignment, functionality of all parts. But you cannot reproach him with asceticism. Modern sounds juicy, rich thanks to the use of elegant lines, bright colors. White, gray, black are more often used as a contour. A color base in the design of the premises are green and turquoise, wine or berry. The main background of the rooms can be natural colors: delicate olive, creamy or warm peach.

Classic does not reject the improvisation, the original nuances. Along with smooth lines, natural materials quite appropriately will be unusual forms: an armchair stylized as a flower or an elephant-table. Modernism dictates the rejection of excesses, but is characterized by rich ornaments, all sorts of fancy accents.

Modern

The modern version of this direction also has a free space, free layout. But multi-level ceilings and floors are an element not mandatory, but desirable. Functionality is more pronounced, the color gamut to the basic combinations of black, gray, white. Patterns are used as a separate element of decoration.

Modern layouts are still characterized by smooth lines. Sofas, tables should have rounded delicate outlines, but all sorts of excesses are not welcome. Modern modern looks much stricter, colors are more ascetic, material requirements have softened. For decoration rooms use a combination of artificial materials, their stylization under natural.

The direction of the philosophy has changed somewhat under the influence of hi-tech and techno, thanks to them added conciseness, ease. The harmony of all elements is still required, the interior is created on the basis of the main idea. The room becomes stylish, more comfortable, only when you manage to get rid of all the excess.

Interior decoration

Color, according to designers, the main thing to create an atmosphere. Modern allows the use of all colors, focusing on shades. They should be soft, as if blurred.

The interior is designed to demonstrate softness and tranquility. Therefore, the background color is preferred in warm colors: apply sand, cream, cream. The more harmonious the active elements of decor will look on their background: forged accessories, dark wooden furniture, bright glass elements.

The use of combinations of blue, violet with pure white or its shades: beige, noble pearl, ivory is actual.

Although modern is translated as "modern", it does not aspire to color diversity, design variability.

Walls

For their finishing the most suitable material will be monochrome without pronounced texture. Walls play a secondary background role, so they cannot be variegated or bright.

The most common way to achieve a dim monotony is to paint pre-aligned walls. Fiberglass wallpaper with a matte texture, ceramic tile without patterns, liquid wallpaper or fabric can serve as a facing material. Plastic panels and ordinary wallpaper are contrary to the features of the style.

The walls only create a cozy atmosphere, and furniture and decorative elements dominate.

The actual element of the bathroom or kitchen will be facing the walls with small ceramic tiles or colored mosaics.

Ceiling

Like walls, it must fulfill a passive role, serve as a background for dominant objects. It is better if its design will overlap with the elements of the walls, and the joints with the corners will be softened with plaster or ceiling plinth. The ceiling will be painted in the same color as the walls, but then the possibility of installing suitable lighting fixtures is lost. To arrange them correctly, you can install stretch ceilings.

On these ceilings is not supposed to install chandeliers. If space dimensions allow, the ceiling can be made multi-level.

It is very beautiful and expensive to use stained glass to decorate the ceiling. It will look great if the living room is high and spacious, able to decorate the hall of a stylish restaurant.

Floor

The classic option is a herringbone parquet or marble. For greater originality, designers offer such options as:

  • parquet decoration;
  • mosaic using ceramics;
  • stone with ornament on it. Mosaic and stone will fit perfectly into the bathroom interior.

Finishing the floor of the rooms will best serve parquet, laminate. The main thing is that they are in harmony with the shades of the background and furniture. Luxury stone facing will also look stylish. On the floor of the living room or dining room is quite appropriate to be ceramic tiles, smooth, not matte, evenly painted. The color of the floor should be darker than the general background of the room and in harmony with other parts of the decor.

The use of linoleum is in conflict with the style.

Furniture

When creating an interior in the modern style, it is necessary to remember that the furniture parts are its pivot points. Cabinets and cupboards are located on the walls, forming a kind of columns, and the basis of the interior is the central composition. Most often, its role is played by a coffee table surrounded by chairs, a wavy sofa, a bright composition of fresh flowers. Even if they are not located in the center of the room, they carry the main meaning. Headsets with rounded lines should be preferred. The central composition should not only attract attention, it should also be functional within the framework of the style.

Upholstered furniture with ornate rounded legs and leather elements will fit well into the interior of both the living room and the kitchen. A shelf decorated in the form of a branch or a rack of natural wood will look great even on a bathroom wall.

Lighting

So that the style of the room can be attributed to the modern, there must be a lot of light, electric and natural. The focus should be on a soft dim light. Therefore, preference is given to options with table lamps, original lamps, floor lamps.

On the ceiling, you can arrange the background lighting, and the corners of different parts of the room to arrange a variety of lighting fixtures. In addition, lamps located at the corners of a small room will smooth them.

The style requires the windows to have smooth, rounded shapes. This can be achieved by constructing a complex window structure or by correcting the geometry of the window opening with the help of curtains.

The working area of the room is well distinguished by point lighting. In the living room, in addition to table and wall lamps, you can hang a large chandelier with original shades or fabric shade. The work of lighting devices is permissible to make adjustable in intensity and number of operating points. Muffled lighting will give the atmosphere a cosiness.

Textile

The use of textiles inside the various rooms of the house is dictated by their purpose. On the windows of the bedroom, for example, it would be appropriate to use thin tulle, combining it with thick slightly darker curtains, a few pillows, a silk bedspread, corresponding to the general style.

The living room allows for textiles a little more. Carpet, cushions, curtains can be an active color accent, the tone of shades is very close. For furniture upholstery applicable use of the skin. All textile elements: curtains, upholstery, pillows should not attract undue attention to themselves. They complement the colors of the furniture, level contrast transitions.

Fabrics, as well as ornaments of this style, should be light and elegant, their texture should reflect light well.

Dressing

Any accessories, decor items should be present, but they should not be much. Forget about them, for completeness, also not worth it. Such elements may be:

  • glass figurines, figures made of wood, metal, crystal products with engraving, patterns;
  • all sorts of antique vases, chandeliers;
  • heavy frames of intricate shapes in paintings, mirrors;
  • panels with the plots of nature;
  • various accessories: tacks, tassels on the curtains;
  • stylized watches, jewelry boxes, various forms of photo frames, candelabra.

A good design solution for a country house would be the installation of a fireplace decorated with multi-colored stones and wooden elements there. It is not bad to decorate the bathroom with an unconventional mirror, with all sorts of marine details, to make a floor of a mosaic. The kitchen will be decorated with painted dishes, panels, paintings, coasters for utensils.
