Color combination of walls, floor and ceiling

The combination of colors in the room can make it more spacious or, on the contrary, reduce, add warmth and comfort, or introduce rigor and solemnity into the interior. Combination can be contrast or sustained in one range, bright or muffled - it all depends on the effect that you want to achieve.

There are many ways with which you can increase a small room or make a little smaller and more comfortable a too large room, using only paints. Consider some of them.

Gradient blend

(light ceiling, darker walls, dark floor or the same combination in the reverse order)

When finishing residential premises are often used gradient transitions. For example, walls dividing a light ceiling and a dark floor make an “intermediate” tone. This technique is used when finishing monochrome rooms, for example, in the classical style. Such combinations look very harmonious and stylish.

Gradient transitions are pleasing to the eye and have a beneficial effect on the nervous system, bringing harmony and tranquility. The similar variant of finishing can be applied in any premises.

Depending on the intensity of the shade of finishing materials, the furniture can be light or dark. Rooms with dark chocolate color will look great, the ceilings will be the color of fresh cream, and the walls will look like cocoa and milk. White, brown, black can be chosen as additional or accent colors. Furniture for a room with such a combination of colors of the floor, walls and ceiling can be of any shade, but desirable - the color of natural wood.

Contrast combination

(light ceiling, bright walls, dark floor)

When painting residential premises, in addition to gradient combinations of color of the walls, ceiling and floor, contrast transitions are often used. This combination looks very advantageous. It is applied in various styles, and helps to make the perception of the room more harmonious, “hiding” its disadvantages.

Low ceiling. If the room has too low ceilings, choose light colors for the ceiling and dark colors for the floor. The walls can also be contrasted. In the event that you use wallpaper, choose drawings stretched from floor to ceiling.

With such a combination of colors of the floor, walls and ceiling it will seem that the height of the ceilings is greater than it actually is. One condition: the ceiling cornices should not be wide, but rather do without them. The contrasting shade on the walls gives the impression of depth, and the light ceiling will “float” over this volume.

Narrow room. If the room has not only a low ceiling, but also incorrect proportions — for example, it is stretched in length, this can be corrected. It is necessary to paint short walls in contrasting colors, and elongated ones - in neutral ones. This method will help to "squeeze" the room in the desired direction, it will acquire more correct proportions.

In the rooms decorated in this way, light furniture looks advantageous, and bright colored accessories will help create a memorable interior. In addition, to expand the narrow room will help furniture, set across the room.

Bright hues

(light ceiling and walls, dark floor)

The combination of colors in a room can add light and air to it. For example, in small rooms, as a rule, the walls and ceiling are trimmed with light colors, and the floor, on the contrary, is dark. The shade of paint on the walls and ceiling should be as light as possible, better white. Also, white should be eaves, trim and skirting, in extreme cases, they can have a light tint of the fundamental tone.

To enhance the impression of airiness, avoid heavy, bulky furniture, bright upholstery. Let things be a little - only the most necessary, and their forms should not be too elaborate. Light carpets look good on the dark floor - they help zone the space and facilitate its perception.

Opposite colors

(dark ceiling, floor and light walls or light ceiling, floor and dark walls)

This combination of colors of walls, ceiling and floor are universal and can be used in rooms with very different geometries. This design option can look very advantageous, and at high and at low ceilings, the only difference is in the method of applying color contrasts.

  • High ceilings. If you feel the need to “lower” the ceiling a bit to make the room more comfortable, the color combination of the floor, walls and ceiling is done this way: the floor and the ceiling are dark, the walls are light. And the cold shades on the light walls will further “move them away”, and warm ones on the floor and ceiling - “bring closer”.
  • Low ceilings. To visually “lift” the ceilings, make them duplex. The main level of the ceiling is painted in dark cold tones, and the suspended one - in light ones. Due to this design, the ceiling will gain volume and will appear higher. In this case, dark floors are necessary - they will act as a “counterweight” to balance the complex ceiling construction.
