Create a design room in a hostel in a small area.

A room in a hostel is popular among those who so far can not afford a separate apartment. It is not only about students, but also about young families that are just “getting on their feet”. The question of interior design is most acute if there are several people living in the room or a couple with a child. Zoning a room becomes vital in order to preserve at least the illusion of personal space. Shared kitchen, bathroom and bathroom with neighbors, allow to unload the room from unnecessary interior items: stove, refrigerator, working area for cooking, and sometimes the dining table. To make the stay more comfortable, develop a competent design of the room in the hostel. Proper design allows you to make housing more spacious and comfortable. Let's talk about what steps should be taken by residents of student and family "hostel" to the room turned from a temporary shelter into a favorite house, in which I want to return.

Dorm room interior

To equip a small room is quite simple. The most important thing is to use every square meter, leaving no space “ownerless”. Of course, hiring a professional from the owners of economy housing is unlikely to work out, so the design will have to be developed independently, based on ready-made projects in the public domain and the advice of venerable designers. Style in the room can embody almost any. They do not recommend the use of classical solutions in rooms of 12 square meters (or less) that have strained relations with close spaces.

At the service of young families or campus residents, fashionable Provence, high-tech, art deco, loft, minimalism, modern, country and fusion. Features of the styles are played up differently depending on the number of tenants and even the relationship between them. First of all it concerns the beds. Most often in the "common room" live two. However, there are several options:

  • If a married couple with a child lives in the room, then you should equip one bed with a large bed and a children's corner.
  • If the room is occupied by two girls or two guys, then you need to install twin beds.
  • Even three or four people can live in bigger rooms. Then they are already considering options with bunk beds, which will help save living space.

Design design will consist of several stages:

  • The choice of stylistic solutions and colors;
  • Finishing and lighting;
  • Selection of furniture;
  • Zoning;
  • Dressing

Many venerable designers agree that it is better for inexperienced designers to choose minimalism for their first experience. With more complex styles, it is easy to “miss” and make mistakes that will not be so easy to fix later. Minimalism is subject to clear rules, which are not so much. They are concise and understandable, as is the direction itself.

Zoning

Zoning will help make the space multi-functional. Without the ability to purchase spacious housing, you will have to translate the original design ideas into cramped temporary rooms or invent your own ways to solve the problem. In small spaces, only two or three zones are provided. If one person lives in a room, then the room is divided into a sleeping area, a living room and an office. For several tenants, additional “private” zones are also provided, which are combined with places to sleep. Zoning is carried out in two ways:

  • Conditional;
  • Actual.

The first option is good because it does not weigh down the space. For small rooms, it fits perfectly. Massive walls, albeit decorative, can shatter the room, making it even more closely. Mobile screens, furniture or curtains are usually considered as actual demarcators. Much depends on the shape of the room. For example, rectangular rooms are easily separated through racks or sofas.

Such zoning does not hurt the perception of space; on the contrary, it will increase the width of a room, bringing its shape closer to the square one. For housing with a complex geometry of the walls, you will have to experiment in the project, trying different options to eliminate the underlining of flaws. In square rooms, the separation is carried out either partially on one wall, or symmetrically on both, leaving a wide aisle between the delineators. Conditional zoning, in turn, can be carried out using light, color combinations, a podium and various surface textures of finishing materials. For example, the sleeping area is decorated with artificial brick of a light shade in the loft style, and the living room is plastered or pasted over with wallpaper. By the way, surfaces with large prints for small rooms fall under the taboo. If patterns are used, then only small repeating ones.

Furniture

Furniture should be selected from catalogs, where multi-functional models are presented. First of all equip the sleeping area. Two separate beds can be replaced with a bunk option, and it is better to refuse a double bed in favor of a folding sofa. Interesting models that combine two completely different platforms. So, for example, cabinets can magically turn into beds. The latter when folded looks like a false facade. A full dining area, if present in the room, is replaced with a retractable or reclining table with a pair of folding chairs. Wardrobe is better to choose the type of "coupe" with sliding doors. This will save on the "dead" zone, which would have to give a swing design. The best are built models. Although it is impossible to move them, they will “capture” valuable meters under the ceiling, adding additional storage space. The corner cabinets look good in the interior. The shape of the facades, you can also choose the original. Recently popular models that are decorated with wavy relief. Smoothed corners will add room softness. Actual solutions for interiors in modern styles. From materials it is recommended to choose wood or its imitation (MDF), plastic and tempered glass. The latter can be used in the decoration of cabinets' facades or in small interior items: coffee or dining tables, shelves, hinged open shelves. Closed models with doors located above the eye level, the space will load. It is also recommended to use mirrors in the decor. With proper lighting, they will add a room perspective.

Furnishing choose simple shapes with smooth surfaces. Complex configurations that are decorated with embossed elements will add unnecessary gravity to the room. They will harmoniously look only in large rooms.

Lighting

For smaller rooms, a multi-level lighting project is being developed to fill the room with “air”. This scheme includes: a ceiling chandelier, lamps above work areas (local), and diffused light from point sources. At the last stop in more detail. Spotlights feature around the perimeter of the room, above the top panels of cabinets and along the decorative "steps" on the ceiling. You can also equip the podium with devices. If a small room has low ceilings, then it is better to abandon the central chandelier in favor of several located above the functional areas.

Color spectrum

Light colors will prevail in the interior paint palette. Traditionally it is white, gray, beige and wood colors. Although your service will be the whole range of pastel colors. Of course, without accents, the interior will look dull, so the room’s decor is diluted with bright “stains”. Curtains, pillows, bedspreads, rugs, vases, jewelry boxes, flower pots, and mirrors can serve as decorations. Contrasting colors should not be abused, so it’s best to choose just one or two tones that set off light furnishings and furniture. Black, mauve, fuchsia, red, blue, juicy green, sunny yellow can play the role of accent shades.

Interior room 12 square. m

Rooms are 12 square meters. attributed to small premises, which are still easily able to accommodate the functional minimum. As partitions, it is recommended to use light "walls" of translucent plastic or curtains. The latter often delimit the sleeping area. Furniture items are recommended to place a minimum: a bed, a wardrobe, a table for work. But from the TV stand, it is better to refuse, having attached it directly to the wall. Some rooms are equipped with even a mini-kitchen. For the decoration of the top it is better to use a stretch ceiling, the glossy surface of which will add to the space of air and freedom. Experiments with a palette of colors are not advised. It is better to stay on the traditional options for the chosen style. In minimalism, the standard color scheme consists of gray and white in furniture, decoration and accent black, violet, blue in the decor.

Interior room 18 square. m

Premises of 18 sq.m. usually have an elongated rectangular shape. Such rooms are traditionally zoned in the middle, and narrow furniture is installed along the perimeter. Lighting can not be concentrated only at one point. For this reason, the ceiling chandelier is replaced by several lamps. More lighting devices are placed in the area that is closer to the door and, respectively, is fenced off from the window and natural light. The facades of the cabinets are mirrored, which will add perspective to the space. Accent zone make one of the "short" walls. In square rooms it is permissible to use volumetric furniture, which is located either in the center or around the perimeter of the room. Zoning is carried out with the help of sofas, shelves, bollards and decorative walls made of bright-colored plastic with a glossy surface.

What should not be missed in a small room

Before the development of the project, it is necessary to study the advice of professionals in the arrangement of the dorm room. The five most valuable recommendations include:

  • "Furniture" advice. You should not choose for the interior large, massive headsets, which were popular in Soviet times. It is better to purchase each item separately. First, the headset can negatively affect the perception of space. Secondly, the interior of the various pieces of furniture will look fresh and original.
  • Stylistic advice. We do not recommend choosing directions for decoration that breathe luxury and are rich in decorative elements. Perhaps the soul of the owner lies precisely to the pompous classics, but it is easy to replace it with modernist style to modern trends. It is also recommended to abandon the Italian, Spanish styles, ar nouveau, baroque, retro and rococo.
  • "Window" advice. Do not use heavyweight curtains. Instead, the windows are closed with light curtains or blinds. The latter are relevant for minimalism and modern style. One of the zones in any case will experience a lack of sunlight, so they do not recommend further aggravating the situation by “wrapping” the windows. By the way, in the loft curtains do not use at all.
  • Council of mirrors. Add more reflective surfaces to the room. Mirrors and glass will "multiply" the light and advantageously increase the space.
  • Striped advice. To expand the room, use the finishing materials in the strip. For example, the floor in narrow rooms is faced with a material with horizontal lines. Similar patterns can decorate the accent walls. Do not overdo it with the "banding", from which charge in the eyes. Just a couple of accents will be enough.

Conclusion

Almost every second former student lived in a dormitory while studying. For many, this time remains in the memories, as the brightest. Also, young families in the early years of marriage often have to huddle in small rooms before buying a full-fledged housing. Owners of cramped spaces, as a rule, are tight on money, so the design should be developed according to a budget plan. Inexpensive furniture and simple decoration is easily complemented by stylish decor. The result is a concise, but aesthetically beautiful setting.
